Hi there, I’m Julia, and welcome to my little part of the world.
Photography and I.
—
I am not particularly good at storytelling with words, which is why I would far rather be behind a camera than a word document. Nevertheless, below is a little storytelling, so you may get to know me before we embark on our photography journey together.
Firstly, you should know I was born and grew up in South Africa. I had many happy and creative years being brought up there and remise about those days quite often as I grow older. School was crap, as it is for many of us, but after school is where it all took off. I trained to become a commercial pilot and continued to work in the aviation industry for ten years. I moved around a lot, living in a few different places over those years. Being a pilot is one of the greatest achievements of my life so far.
Secondly, a few years ago on a Tuesday in September, I got itchy feet. I wanted a change, a big one. So I packed my bags and moved to Scotland. I got myself a camera and a drone and haven’t stopped taking photographs since. I haven’t looked back either.
I know that this new life here in Scotland was the missing piece in my puzzle. This slower paced, creative, happy, more conscious life is something I have been searching to replicate since childhood. I now focus more on the finer details in life. I focus on building new and lasting relationships, spending time with family, drinking very good coffee, keeping healthy, and walking my dog, a lot. And all of these are aspects of life I photograph in the lives of my clients.
Lastly, a quick jump to present day; I am a photographer full time, and work part time as a chef in, you guessed it, a cafe! How fitting since I am a cafe photographer.
And, in case you were wondering, no. I no longer fly. I love to think of that as a past life I will always be happy to have lived, and this is a new one where new things are possible.
Will you join me for the journey?
